Circulation Section

Circulation section plays a vital role in ensuring that library materials are accessible to patrons and that library services are delivered efficiently. By providing a welcoming and supportive environment circulation staff helps patrons to navigate the library’s collection and services, making it easier for the find and access the resources they need.

This section represents the hub of library activities where lending out of books to readers is facilitated. Located on the second floor, users must enroll as members to borrow books.

Apart from the library activities, the circulation of books for home use is a major public service provided by the library. Nearly all the members of the library visit this section for getting books on loan for home use at one or the other time.

Collection:

Circulation process is fully automated with Libsys software and RFID system for issue and return. This largest section houses more than 160,000 books in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu and Sanskrit, covering fiction, biographies, self-help, astrology, and more.

Library borrowing policy:

General Members can borrow up to 2 books for 14 days on and it can be renew for further 14days if the books are not in demand.

Senior citizen can borrow up to 4 books for 28 days and it can be renew for further 28 days if books are not in demand.

Fine for overdue books: Rs. 1 per day per book.

Key functions of the Circulation Section:

  1. Registration of new members: Registering new Library Patrons and issuing new library cards.
  2. Check- out and Check –in: Managing the borrowing and returning of Library Materials.
  3. Renewal of Materials: Allowing patron to extend the loan period of for further 15 days via telephone and email.
  4. Fine Collection: Collecting fines for late returns, damaged and lost books.
  5. Reserving materials: Placing holds on materials that are currently checked out or not available in the library.
  6. Interlibrary Loans: Requesting books from other libraries on behalf of patrons.
  7. Providing assistance: Answering basic questions about library services, policies and procedures and solving day to day routine matters.
  8. WEBOPAC: Web OPAC is web based interface that allows users to search and access catalogue of resources online from any device online. Users can also search books by author, title, subject etc. via OPAC (Online Public access Catalogue) within the Library also based on current reading trends.

Additional features and services:

Library at our doorstep: This doorstep service is for our privileged senior citizens to show them that we care. We can issue and return books to them on phone and email and send and pick up books from to their home. The library is already proving service or senior citizen i.e. no ‘q’ for issue return of books.

Library card management: managing library card accounts including updating contact information, replacing lost cast and resolving account issues.

Large print books: There is a separate section of large print books

Books of Chandigarh authors: There is a separate section of books written by Chandigarh authors. 

New Arrivals:  Regular display of new arrivals in the Library.

Display on special days: We regularly display books on special days and Authors birthday and organize impromptu quizzes.

The library is open daily from:
8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Closed on national holidays and select government holidays)
To become a member, you need to fill out the membership form (available online or at the library) and provide a valid photo ID, address proof, and passport-size photographs. A small membership fee may apply based on the category (student, general, researcher, etc.).
