A special provision has been made for the public to bring their own books and read in the cool and conducive atmosphere of the library. Reading is a pleasure and with surroundings so serene and serious , and also for students especially preparing for competitive exams having a place where they can bring their own books , notes etc and concentrate is a boon . This section is very much appreciated by the readers  who sit there  undisturbed, and study.

The Newspaper and Magazine/Reading Section of T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh, is one of its most popular and heavily utilized facilities. With a seating capacity of over 100 people, it offers a peaceful and focused environment for readers and students who bring their own study material for self-study. The ambiance of this section is ideal for concentrated reading and exam preparation—something that truly needs to be experienced in person. At any given time, between 60 to 80 readers can be found using the space, and often, demand exceeds the available seating.

This section serves as a major attraction of the library and is unique in its scale compared to other public libraries in the city. It maintains organized files of current employment notices, admission updates, and other public interest information, making it especially useful for aspirants preparing for competitive exams. The library subscribes to 25 newspapers and 90 periodicals, ensuring diverse content is available for general and academic reading.

Additionally, the Reading Room located in the basement provides further space for around 100 more users, particularly benefiting students and professionals pursuing higher education. On average, around 500 visitors use this section daily.
